The death of a Boone County coal miner marks the 7th mining death in West Virginia in 2007.
The state Mine Safety Office says 34-year-old Charles Jason Keeney of Danville was killed Sunday night when a rock pinned him against a mine belt.
Mine Safety Office spokesman Hoy Murphy says Keeney and other members of a crew were working underground in Long Branch Energy's No. 23 Mine located near Wharton when the accident happened.
Murphy says the crew was cleaning the belt when large rock became dislodged and pinned Keeney.
Investigators from the state office and federal Mine Safety Health and Training (MSHA) are conducting an investigation.
Keeney had four years mining experience.
