Former Putnam County Sheriff Stan Farley was arrested Thursday morning on drunk driving charges.
Police in Hurricane say Farley was charged after wrecking his car into the rear of another vehicle. The arrest came at 9:30 a.m. on U.S. Route 60.
According to the criminal complaint, the officer investigating the accident smelled a strong odor of alcohol on Farley and he later failed a Breathalyzer test. The officer says due to the location of the accident a field sobriety test was not offered.
According to the complaint, Farley's blood alcohol level was .118.
Farley served two terms as Putnam County sheriff from 1997 to 2004. He failed in his attempt to return to the office when Sheriff Mark Smith defeated him in Tuesday's election.
