It's that time of year again. Three little words will set your mouth watering for one of the most delicious treats ever packaged in a box -- Girl Scout Cookies.
The Girl Scout Cookie kickoff starts Friday and you can purchase your cookies from a Girl Scout through January 25. There are all your favorites: Thin Mints, Do-Se-Dos and Trefoils. Emily Tucker with the Black Diamond Girl Scout Council says there’s a new addition. "This year's new cookie is the Dulce de Leche. That cookie is shortbread with caramel chips and caramel stripes,” she said.
Sound yummy? Well, get ready to place your orders from a Girl Scout like Hannah Miller of Troop 2262 out of Cross Lanes. She has her own sales strategy. "Be the top seller, at least try to be this year,” she said her goal is at least 250 boxes.
Susan Thompson, with the Black Diamond Girl Scout Council which covers all of West Virginia, says the cookie sale isn't just about raising money, it's about raising confident young women. "In Girl Scouting we build girls of courage, confidence and character who make the world a better place,” Thompson said. “That is our mission." Thompson says the cookie sale teaches those qualities.
Each box of cookies cost $3.50. If you don't know a Girl Scout and want to by a box or few, you can call 1-800-756-7616 or log on to bdgsc.org to find a troop near you. The cookies will be delivered at the end of February or the beginning of March.
