'Devastated By This'
Reuben Perdue, WAJR-FM
The Morning Edition

The attorney for one of the FBI workers accused of spying on high school girls says his client did nothing wrong.

"My client is guilty of nothing more than going to work, doing his job and bringing home a pay check to his family," Attorney Garth Beck said on The Morning Edition, heard Tuesday on MetroNews Affiliate WAJR-FM in Clarksburg.

Beck is representing 40-year old Gary Sutton, Junior who is one of the two men now charged with conspiracy and criminal invasion of privacy.

He and Charles Hommema of Buckhannon are accused of directing video cameras into a dressing room at the Middletown Mall in Marion County earlier this month as high school girls changed into prom dresses.

Beck says there was no effort to set up surveillance on the girls.

"The video cameras in question are FBI property.  They are set up in the mall.  They are highly visible.  These men did not go around placing cameras in dressing rooms," Beck says.

Beck says his client's reputation is being ruined.  "He's got a 12 year service record with the FBI.  He's married.  He has children.  He goes to church.  Mr. Sutton is devastated by this."

The two are facing misdemeanor charges.  If convicted, they could face up to a year in jail and be forced to pay fines.
