Who is Jim Justice?
The new owner of The Greenbrier Resort is one of the most successful business people in West Virginia, growing coal and agriculture businesses that have made him a millionaire many times over.
Justice is a Raleigh County native and Marshall graduate. He joined his family business in 1976 and started Bluestone Farms the following year.
The farm business grew, eventually encompassing 50,000 acres of corn, wheat and soybeans in West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina.
His agriculture interests spun off to include a 15,000 acre hunting and fishing preserve in Monroe County, Stoney Brook Plantation.
Justice took control of Bluestone Industries and Bluestone Coal Corporation after the death of his father, James, in 1993.
Justice’s coal business followed the same path as his farming interests as he acquired tens of thousands of acres of coal reserves and added mining operations in West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee and Virginia.
He sold Bluestone coal and related businesses recently to a Russian company for over $400 million.
Justice is an avid sports fan. He has served President of the Beckley Little League since 1992 and is the coach of the Greenbrier East high school girls basketball team since
