Emergency officials in Kanawha County say a man took his own life after his house caught on fire Wednesday morning.

Police a house fire was reported in the Alum Creek area and when firefighters arrived on the scene flames were shooting through the roof.

The man, who was apparently inside the house when the fire began, walked outside and shot himself in the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
