The rules for setting up satellite precincts for the early vote in West Virginia have been released and there are some changes.
The most significant change removes a requirement that forced the precincts to stay in one place. Secretary of State Natalie Tennant says that modification is designed to make it more affordable for counties set up these precincts.
"If they only want it in a location for five days, they don't have to go the whole 20 days. It wouldn't be as expensive for them," Tennant says.
However, the site has to be established for at least three consecutive days.
Another change offers a clarification on the plans counties submit for establishing those precincts. Those plans are good for only one cycle now. The Secretary also addressed how poll workers are chosen for each site.
The rules have been filed with the Administrative Law Division of the Secretary of State's Office. They'll later be sent to the Legislative Rule Making Review Committee for approval in the 2010 Legislative Session.
