The golf world is already reacting to Wednesday's announcement that The Greenbrier Resort will be hosting a PGA event next summer.
GolfWeek Columnist Marty Kaufman says it's impressive what resort owner Jim Justice has been able to do in a very short period of time. "It will be a big event," Kaufman predicted. "Jim Justice doesn't do anything small."
Kaufman says Justice and others have several months to convince the best player in the world to take part. "The data is pretty clear that if Tiger shows up at a tournament, ticket sales increase dramatically," Kaufman said. "But perhaps more important for Jim is TV ratings increase dramatically."
Kaufman says the only difficult issue the event faces is The Greenbrier is a little difficult to get to, but he adds Justice can make it happen.
Justice is spending $6 million on the purse and Kaufman says that could be a good investment. "If it results in long-term more corporate bookings at the resort and more leisure travel to the resort then Jim will look at it and say, 'This is a good deal for me,'" Kaufman said.
Kaufman was a guest Wednesday on MetroNews Talkline.
