Nicholas County Woman Claims Civil Rights Were Violated
Staff
Summersville

A Summersville resident has filed a lawsuit against the city, its mayor and a police officer.

Resident Shelley Stubbs claims that after making a complaint to Mayor Robert Shafer outside Patty's Video Gaming establishment in Summersville, she was banned from Patty's. Stubbs alleges the ban came after the mayor said if Stubbs were allowed to continue to patronize the establishment, he would no longer go there.

Stubbs claims the ban was unlawful and a violation of her civil rights. Stubbs also claims she was a victim of false arrest by Summersville Police Officer Jason Lanham.

Stubbs is asking for unspecified monetary damages. The case has been filed in Nicholas County Circuit Court.
