Members of the Rockingham County, Virginia Fire and Rescue Department are mourning the loss of one of their own.
Chip Taylor had worked as a firefighter and paramedic for the county for the past four years. He was shot and killed last Friday night along with his wife and her five year old daughter in their Hardy County home.
The Taylors moved from Fulks Run, Virginia to Mathias, West Virginia just a few months ago. Taylor commuted from one state to the other for work.
Rockingham County Fire and Rescue Chief Robert Symons tells MetroNews Taylor was much loved by his co-workers. "He was just so laid back that he made you at ease when you met him."
Symons says Taylor will be remembered for a terrific sense of humor.
"Everybody always looked forward to working with Chip because he was a big cut-up. He liked to screw around and he liked to play jokes on people."
But one thing he was very serious about, Chief Symons say, was his family, including his three children with his ex-wife Lorie Taylor.
"A lot of times on his day off he would just stop by the office and bring his children with him and just visit and hang out."
Lorie Taylor and Nakia Keller were arrested in Rockingham County on Tuesday charged and charged with the triple murder. Chip and Lorie were in the middle of custody battle over their children.
Chief Symons says the department will pay their respects to Taylor at his funeral which is set for Friday at 3 p.m. at the Cornerstone Church in Broadway, Virginia.
