Charleston Police say they are following a lead in their investigation into a West Side murder from Tuesday night.
James Michael Williams, 19, was shot and killed in his home at 800 Grant Street. Police say the fatal shot came through the window from the street, but are unable to say if the shooter was on foot or in a vehicle.
Two other people were in the home at the time, including a small child, but Williams was the only one injured. Medical personnel treated him at the scene, but he died on the way to CAMC.
Authorities are currently examining evidence, talking to neighbors who reported hearing numerous shots, and awaiting an autopsy report. City Police Chief of Detectives Sgt. Steve Cooper says it's unclear until the autopsy is finished how many times Williams was shot.
Cooper also refused to speculate on whether detectives think Williams was an intended target of the shooter or an innocent bystander.
