Governor Joe Manchin has ordered U.S. flags in West Virginia to half-staff in honor of the tragedy at Fort Hood, Texas.
On Thursday, Army officials say Major Nidal Malik Hasan opened fire on the base killing 13 people and wounding at least 30 others.
"Gayle and I were heartbroken to learn of this senseless tragedy and our hearts go to the entire Fort Hood community. Every day, our men and women in uniform give tirelessly and make such tremendous sacrifices to protect this country and the freedoms we all enjoy. On behalf of all West Virginians, our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims' families and loved ones as they go through this difficult time," the Governor said in a release Friday.
Flags will remain at half-staff until sunset on November 10th, the day before Veterans' Day.
