Beckley Police say it will probably be week's end before they make a determination on whether a Raleigh County woman will face charges in connection with the shooting death of her live-in boyfriend.
Police say 37-year old Larry Patton of Beckley was shot and killed back on Friday night in the city.
"We're still interviewing witnesses," said Beckley Police Captain Jeffrey Shumate. "We do know there was a verbal altercation prior to the shooting."
The shooter is a 41-year old woman. Shumate says she and Patton had been cohabitating for five months and there may be evidence of a violent relationship.
"We have interviewed the person responsible and we're in the process of recovering historical information that will be forwarded to the prosecutor’s office to make a determination on if charges should be filed and if so, what those should be," said Shumate.
Shumate says there is some indication the shooting may well be considered self-defense and therefore justifiable homicide.
