Audio Included Mountaineer Coach Bill Stewart: Game Number 12

Mountaineer Head Football Coach Bill Stewart says his team is looking only at the Scarlet Knights of Rutgers.

"We've got to finish the fight," Stewart said on Monday's MetroNews Talkline.  "We've got to beat this Rutgers (team) in our 12th game and then we'll worry about the 13th game or we can reminisce back on Pitt, the 11th game."

West Virginia University is on the road in New Jersey to take on Rutgers at noon this Saturday.

The Mountaineers go into Saturday's game after knocking off the #9 Pitt Panthers 19-16 in the Backyard Brawl in Morgantown last Friday.

"That's a game we needed, this state needed, our people needed, our fans needed," Coach Stewart says of the win.

Tyler Bitancurt kicked the winning field goal in the final moments of that game at Milan Puskar Stadium on the day after Thanksgiving.

Stewart says he didn't say anything to Bitancurt before that kick.

"I just kind of said, 'If it's meant to be, it'll work.'  We worked it down there.  (Quarterback) Jarrett Brown took the game over at the end, got us in field goal position and Tyler hit it through."

This season marks the first time since 1993 that WVU has won all of its home games.

"It's big.  It's over.  It's done," Stewart says of what he told his team Sunday of the Pitt win.

"Do not worry about Game 11.  It's in the books.  We got 'em.  Do not worry, for God's sake, about (Game) Number 13.  The 13th game will come.  Where?  I don't know.  Only concentrate on Game 12."
