The body of a missing Kanawha County firefighter needs to be located by Sunday. Kanawha County Fire Coordinator C.W. Sigman says that's why searchers will launch what's being called a final push in Raleigh County if the body of 32-year-old Donnie Adkins can't be located by Saturday evening.
"Everybody wants to come up and help. They feel obligated, and it's a great feeling that they care so we're going to go up there Saturday and just push it with as many firefighters as we can put in there and still leave the areas protected," says Sigman.
Sigman is hoping Adkins can be located Thursday. If searchers can't to do that, then the race is on to beat the weather.
"We're supposed to get some storms or rain in Sunday afternoon or Sunday evening. We need to get him out of there before we get another rain and he's moved," Sigman explains.
Divers and a kayaker have been aiding in the search for Adkins. On Wednesday, Sigman says the kayaker reported back that he had found a three mile stretch where Adkins could be located. The search Thursday will concentrate on that area.
Adkins was carried away by swift water last Saturday after his boat capsized in Beaver Creek. He and other firefighters from Glasgow had already conducted several successful rescues before the accident occurred.
