Greenbrier County Sheriff Jim Childers says there have been no major problems this week with The Greenbrier Classic.
Childers says, yes, there's been a lot of traffic and crowds have grown along the Old White Course at The Greenbrier Resort, but all things have been handled.
"This kind of event you don't expect any problems," the sheriff said. "This is not a problem event. Unlike some events you may work."
Childers says he knows there will be large crowds for the remaining concerts through Saturday night. He says there's a plan to deal with those crowds.
Most of those attending the tournament are parking at the State Fairgrounds in Fairlea and then taking shuttle buses to the resort. Childers says it couldn't be simpler. "The bus drops them off and they walk down through the tunnel and onto the grounds," he said.
Childers has also spoken with a number of the golfers and he says all have come away impressed with event. "They all love The Greenbrier," the sheriff said. "All of them are talking about The Greenbrier, how much they like it."
Sheriff Childers jokes there could be a potential security problem if one of the golfers makes a hole in one.
"Mr. Justice has put up a million dollars for a hole in one and says he's going to give everybody sitting around the 18th green 100-dollars and he says if there's two there's another million and everybody sitting around is going to get 500-dollars. I don't want to be in charge of passing out the money," the sheriff said.
