Repairs have already been completed at Stadium Field in Parkersburg where someone broke in and stole more than 1,400 feet of copper wiring last weekend.
Parkersburg High School Athletic Director Lori Lowlers tells MetroNews school system maintenance crews were able to make the repairs, which cost about $3,000.
"This is just a sad situation that someone would do that," Lowlers said of the theft.
Those responsible broke through a cinder block and used insulated tools to strip the wiring from the walls underneath the bleachers. The wires were hooked to the outside dusk to dawn lights at the stadium.
"Somebody had to had known it was there and had to have known what they were doing to be able to take that wiring out without being hurt or possibly being electrocuted," Lowers said.
Investigators originally thought about a dozen aluminum poles used for track and field were also stolen, but they were located in another part of the stadium. Lowers says they had been previously moved by the track coach.
Security has been improved.
"We have re-keyed the doors. There's a garage door and a walk-in door and they've already re-keyed those doors just to try and make it more secure," Lowers said.
