HOPPY KERCHEVAL, VP OPERATIONS

The radio "dean" of West Virginia broadcasters, Hoppy Kercheval joined West Virginia Radio Corporation in 1976. Through the years Hoppy's assignments have spanned the gamut to include news, sports, and talk.
A native of Summit Point in Jefferson County, Hoppy began as a news anchor/reporter at WAJR in Morgantown while still attending West Virginia University. After graduating with honors from WVU, Kercheval took over as News Director at WAJR and began carving an identity as the state of West Virginia's most professional and respected journalist.
A founding father of Metronews, Kercheval served as News Director until assuming the role of Vice President of Operations in 1991. In 1993, he created Metronews Talkline, which has become a signature program of the network. Hoppy's gift of interviewing has made Talkline a must-listen for lawmakers and anyone interested in state politics and the day's top news events.
In addition to his Metronews assignments, Kercheval has been a key member of the Mountaineers Sports Network. His pre-game, halftime, and post game scores and highlight features have become a staple of MSN broadcasts.
An avid traveler, Hoppy's adventures have taken him to fifteen different countries including Central and South America, Europe, and Asia.
TONY CARIDI, METRONEWS SPORTSLINE
The state of West Virginia's most recognizable sports voice is in his second decade with West Virginia Radio Corporation.
Tony joined the company in 1984 as a news anchor on WAJR in Morgantown, and assumed the role of Sports Director when Metronews was created two years later. He took over as host of the Metronews Statewide Sportsline in 1986.
Critically acclaimed for his work, he is a multiple winner of the state's sportscaster of the year. In addition, Tony has broadcast nationally on ESPN, Westwood Radio, and regionally for the Big East and Atlantic Ten television networks.
A native of Lockport, New York, and graduate of the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University, Caridi began working with the Mountaineer Sports Network in 1987 as a television play-by-play announcer and feature reporter. He assumed radio play-by-play duties on MSN in 1997.
In addition to his on-air work, Tony oversees the Metronews Internet division and serves as Special Projects Manager for Pikewood Creative.
Tony and his wife Joan have three children, Michael, Andrew, and Matthew.
JEFF JENKINS
The award-winning native of Pratt, West Virginia took over as head of the news division of Metronews in August of 2000. Prior to that the 1987 graduate of West Virginia University's Perley Isaac Reed School of Journalism served as news director at WAJR in Morgantown.
In addition to directing the news operation, Jeff serves as chief capital correspondent. His unbelievable work ethic and drive provides Metronews listeners with unparalleled coverage of state government.
A 17-year veteran of West Virginia Radio Corporation, Jeff began his tenure with the company as an intern while still attending West Virginia University. A former student manager for the West Virginia University football team continues his involvement with the Mountaineers by serving as director of football broadcasts on the Mountaineer Sports Network.
In addition to using his voice for broadcasting news, Jeff also is an accomplished singer and leads the congregational singing at Spring Hill Baptist Church in South Charleston.
Jeff and his wife Jackie have three children, Caleb, Tommy, and Stephen.
SHAUNA JOHNSON
Shauna Johnson grew up in Fairmont, went to college in Morgantown and has
lived and worked throughout West Virginia in the time since then.
After graduating from West Virginia University, Shauna worked at WBOY-TV in
Clarksburg before joining West Virginia Radio Corporation's Charleston
Newsroom. In 2001, Shauna took over as News Director for WAJR-AM in
Morgantown where she worked alongside Shawn Falkenstein for two years,
covering Morgantown and surrounding areas.
Shauna joined the Communications Department staff at Snowshoe Mountain
Resort in 2004 where she worked with live feeds and press releases and was
outside a lot.
In March of 2005, she returned to West Virginia Radio Corporation as
Assistant News Director/Anchor-Reporter for the MetroNews Radio Network.
Shauna has good friends, a great family and a healthy love of rock stars.
JENNIFER SMITH, ANCHOR/REPORTER
Jennifer Smith is a true gold and blue Mountaineer. She grew up in Fairmont and graduated from Fairmont Sr. High. She went on to earn her bachelor's degree in broadcast journalism from West Virginia University in 1993.
Jennifer started her career at WBOY-TV in Clarksburg as the anchor of the station's 5:30 newscast "First Edition." she also served as the station's Fairmont Bureau Chief.
In 1998 she moved to Charleston to take a job with the CBS affiliate. She spent four years covering everything from the floods to state government to high school football.
Jennifer joined Metro News in January of 2003 as the co-anchor of "The Morning News" with Chris Lawrence. She also covers breaking news and loves to find and tell a good feature story.
Even though she grew up in Fairmont, Jennifer now considers Charleston her "True Home." in her spare time she's a "Trading Spaces" fanatic and loves to fix up and decorate her home. The love of her life? Lucy Lieu -- also known as Lulu -- her toy miniature poodle. Jennifer never misses a Mountaineer football game.
CHRIS LAWRENCE
The morning voice of the Morning News on MetroNews has been associated with West Virginia Radio Corporation for more than a decade. The native of Big Stone Gap, Virginia joined the company as an anchor at WAJR in Morgantown in 1990.
The University of Tennessee graduate not only excels in anchoring and reporting on MetroNews, but also has flourished in his coverage of hunting and fishing. Chris serves as host of the popular West Virginia Outdoors each Saturday morning, and is an accomplished bass tournament fisherman.
He has been honored by the Society of Professional Journalists and named Outdoor Writer of the year by the West Virginia Bowhunters Association.
Chris and his wife Samantha reside in Hurricane with their three children, Travis, Hank, and Savannah.
