Coley White will remain a West Virginia Mountaineer. WVU coach Bill Stewart told MetroNews late Friday afternoon that he received a call from White’s father to refute a published report that his son was considering a transfer to Alabama A&M.
Stewart said both White’s father and the freshman quarterback confirmed there were no plans to transfer.
"I don't get too awful alarmed on this stuff," said Stewart on Friday's Metronews Sportsline. "I don't know where this stuff gets started, why it gets started. Coley's still in the family, will be in the family and no one has to worry."
Stewart said that White has been working out throughout the summer in Morgantown and has been doing extremely well. If White remains at WVU, he will being practice next month battling for the back-up job behind senior Jarrett Brown.
White, the younger brother of WVU record setting quarterback Pat White, showed improvement throughout spring practice drills.
True freshman Eugene Smith, a Parade All American, will also battle for the reserve spot behind Brown.
The quarterback position will become even deeper next season when highly touted recruits Barry Brunetti and Jeremy Johnson arrive. Both Brunetti and Johnson have already verbally committed to attend WVU.
